Reserva Amazonica is a luxury eco-lodge located in a 24,710 acre (10,000 hectare) private ecological reserve in the Amazon rainforest of Tambopata, Madre de Dios, in southeastern Peru. The lodge features bungalows raised on stilts and complete with private bathrooms, mosquito nets, porches with large windows and hammocks. It also houses the bar, dining room, gift shop and reading room; there is electric lighting in the main pavilion and in the superior bungalows and suites.
Reserva Amazonica boasts 17 well-equipped private cabins, 12 superior bungalows and 3 suites. The wildlife is remarkable, from giant and colorful macaws to toucans, parrots, tapirs, Tamarin monkeys, owls, the gorgeous Southern Amazon Red Squirrels, as well as a large variety of monkeys. The brand new canopy, a complex set of hanging bridges, towers and platforms where visitors can experience flora and fauna seldom seen by human eyes, has become the lodge’s highlight.
How to reach there:
- Daily domestic flights connect Puerto Maldonado with Lima and Cusco.
- Upon arrival at the Puerto Maldonado airport, visitors take the Reserva Amazonica. It is also about an hour-long canoe ride downriver from Puerto Maldonado.
