DAY 02 Lima(B)
Morning colonial tour of Lima. The city has always been one of the most important cities in South America since it was founded by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535. Our sightseeing tour exclusively explores Lima’s historic quarter but unlike the conventional tours it includes the visit to the ‘Instituto Riva Agüero’. This impressive 18th-century mansion was donated to Lima’s Catholic University by the last of the original owners’ descendants. Its ornately carved wooden balconies and its restored interior show yet the splendor of the old ‘casona’ and boast the original furniture of Riva Agüero family in its seven rooms. Our guide will take you through the beautiful green-and-red courtyards, its distinguished library serving as a small folk-art museum and the museum ‘Josefina Ramos de Cox’. This collection displays archaeological pieces among others from the ‘Maranga’ culture that flourished in Lima between the 8th and 13th AD centuries.
Visit to the Larco Herrera museum housed in an elegant 18th century mansion built over a pre-Inca pyramid from the 7th century. This museum holds the most extensive collection of pre-Columbian art in Peru (45,000 pieces). It boasts the finest gold and silver collection of ancient Peruvian cultures as well as the only collection of erotic ceramics in the world. The museum’s didactic galleries, full of highlights, make easier the understanding of 3,000 years of the Peruvian pre-Columbian history.
Its masterpieces are considered worldwide icons of pre-Columbian art and have been displayed in the world's renowned museums. Return to the hotel.
